Q. Composite bonding

Composite bonding is a common procedure used to repair chipped or uneven tooth, or to close minor gaps between teeth. Our dentist will directly apply a tooth colored composite to the front surface of your teeth where it is contoured into the right form and hardened using a special light. The bonded tooth is polished and shaped to appear natural. Composite bonding can be used to fix a single tooth or rebuild several ones. It is usually completed in one visit.

Composite bondings improve irregularly shaped teeth, repair damaged, broken or chipped tooth, closes gaps between teeth, enhance appearance of slightly crooked teeth anda re ,deal for improving the overall beauty of a smile.

Composite bondings are made to naturally match the color of adjacent teeth, and are made from safe, long-lasting material. They are reversible and can be altered if needed plus they might be completed in one appointment.

In the hands of a skilled dentist and with your proper care, the results can last for many years. Touch ups may be done as necessary.

Bonding, just like veneers, crowns or your natural tooth, may break under constant pressure. Avoid chewing on hard food and avoid bad oral habits such as chewing your fingernails, pens, or using your teeth as a tool to open bottles, etc.

Dental bonding uses a special type of dental resin to reshape your teeth. During treatment, this putty-like resin is applied directly to your tooth, then sculpted and smoothed until it looks like a natural part of your smile. Once the shape is perfect, the resin is hardened with UV light. The result is a completely natural-looking tooth with enhanced shape and color. Dental bonding can be used to treat issues like stained, misshapen, and gapped teeth.

Q. What Are the Benefits of Dental Bonding?

Dental bonding is totally non-invasive. Unlike veneers, no enamel must be removed to prepare for your treatment, which means dental bonding is reversible and causes no permanent changes to your tooth structure.

This means that the process is entirely pain-free! Dental bonding also offers fast results. We can treat one or more teeth in just a single appointment at SmileSpot, which makes this treatment ideal if you want to improve your smile quickly for an upcoming event. This treatment has a relatively long lifespan, and you can expect your bonded teeth to last 7-10 years or longer with proper oral hygiene and care.

Q. What Can I Expect from the Composite Bonding Process?

The process of composite bonding is fast and non-invasive, usually taking only about 30-60 minutes per tooth. Because of this, most patients opt to have multiple teeth bonded in a single appointment.

To begin, Dr. Evcin will prepare your teeth using a special solution that roughens your enamel, which allows the dental resin to bond tightly to your tooth. Next, he will apply the tooth-colored resin, then mold and sculpt it into the proper overall shape. The resin will be hardened with a UV light, and Dr. Evcin will refine the shape until it looks exactly as desired. Once your tooth looks perfect, the process is complete!

Q. Composite bonding process

During the bonding process, the damaged tooth is isolated. Tooth isolation is critical to the success of bonding techniques because it prevents moisture from interfering with the process.

Following tooth isolation, a gentle phosphoric acid (this does not produce discomfort) is applied to the natural tooth surface. This “acid etching” of the tooth surface enhances the bonding strength of the resin. After 15 seconds, the phosphoric acid is removed and a liquid bonding resin is applied. A putty-like composite resin is placed in stages on the natural surface of the tooth, where it is shaped and cured into place with a blue light. The process is repeated in layers until the resin has achieved its final shape and form.

The bonding process is sensitive to each dentist’s technique, so the dentist must follow the steps diligently and produce an appropriate finish to ensure that the bonded resin does not fall off or cause tooth sensitivity. It is not uncommon for a bonded tooth to feel sensitive after treatment. This minor sensitivity is often short-lived; however, if sensitivity persists, it is recommended that you schedule a follow-up appointment with the dentist. Usually, the bonding process is not associated with complications.

Q. Is composite bonding permanent?

Depending on your at-home care, diet, and other factors, you can expect your composite bonding treatment to last about 5-10 years on average. Bonding on molars and locations that receive more bite force will be a little less durable.

Q. Should I get composite bonding or veneers?

There are pros and cons to each. Veneers, being fully custom “shells” for your teeth, generally provide more protection and a bigger cosmetic improvement. But dental bonding treatments are more flexible and don’t require removing any natural tooth structure.

Q. Is composite bonding good for my health?

Yes! Bonding has more than just cosmetic benefits. Because the material is “bonded” directly to the tooth it acts as a reinforcement, preventing chips, cracks, and small fractures from getting bigger.
