Q. Dental bridges

When you are missing a tooth or an element is heavily damaged you can get it replaced by a crown or a bridge. A crown is a sort of cap that is placed onto a tooth to protect and to stabelise it. Also the esthetic function can be highly upgraded. When you have a unit of several crowns together you talk about a bridge. They are fixed onto your shaped teeth with cement and they feel and look as your own teeth. When a big amount of teeth needs to be covered and there are wide gaps in between teeth, we make a bridge. This procedure has proven his strength and it’s nice esthetical values

During the first visit for getting a dental bridge, the abutment teeth are prepared. Preparation involves recontouring these teeth by removing a portion of enamel to allow room for a crown to be placed over them. Next, impressions of your teeth are made, which serve as a model from which the bridge, pontic, and crowns will be made by a dental laboratory. Our dentist will make a temporary bridge for you if needed to wear to protect the exposed teeth and gums while your bridge is being made. During the second visit, your temporary bridge will be removed and the new permanent bridge will be checked and adjusted, as necessary, to achieve a proper fit. This is dependent on each individual's case. If the dental bridge is a fixed (permanent) bridge, our dentist may temporarily cement it in place for a couple of weeks to make sure it is fitting properly

Q. Dental bridges can

Restore your smile and your ability to properly chew and speak. Maintain the shape of your face.Distribute the forces in your bite properly by replacing missing teeth. Prevent remaining teeth from drifting out of position.

Q. Dental bridge care

Once your bridge is fitted, it’s important to maintain a regular and effective routine of oral hygiene. Brush and floss two to three times a day, taking extra care to floss around your crown. This will help avoid decay where the bridge and the tooth join. Avoid sticky foods such as toffee and lollies, and do not use your teeth inappropriately – chewing pens, crunching ice, gnawing fingernails, etc. A dental floss threader, which looks like a small bendy brush, can be used to clean under your bridge. There are also water jets on the market that will help keep your bridge clean. Whether you have a crown or a bridge, the most important thing is to regularly visit your dentist for a checkup and clean. This way problems can be detected early, allowing them to be corrected before they become painful and expensive.

Q. How long will a dental bridge or crown last?

How long your crown and bridge lasts depends on the effectiveness and regularity of your dental hygiene routine. As a general rule, they last between 7-15 years but longer periods are certainly possible with outstanding oral hygiene and regular dental check-ups.
