Compounds such as hydrogen peroxide and carbamide peroxide react strongly to the presence of stains on your teeth and destroy the bonds that hold them to your enamel. We offer both in-office whitening and professional take-home whitening kits at Cosmopolident.
Teeth whitening or bleaching has become more popular in recent years. Whitening your teeth is a great way to help restore self-esteem. When your teeth literally shine, it can help you feel more confident.
Before undergoing whitening treatment a dentist will examine your teeth and gums and advise you if they are healthy enough to go through a whitening process.
Microscopic intrinsic stains and discolouration present deep within the teeth are responsible for the overall dull or yellowish appearance of your teeth. Our dentist professionally remove these stains using a peroxide-based agent. The peroxide reacts with the stain-producing substances thereby oxidizing and clearing them completely. We protect your gums and lips with special barriers to prevent their contact with peroxide.
Q. Teeth whitening at the clinic
In-practice teeth whitening is a professional whitening procedure that's done in the dental chair. It's the fastest and most effective way to whiten teeth and usually takes around one-and-a-half to two hours to complete. In-practice whitening is the best option if you want almost 'instant' results.
Our dentist will first apply a protective gel to your lips and gums, followed by the application of the whitening gel to the teeth. The gel which contains hydrogen peroxide is then activated by a special LED light. The process varies in length, depending on the depth of the stain and the goal level of whiteness. There is usually only one treatment required. Deep staining may require additional treatments. (one for the top teeth and one for the bottom), syringes of whitening gel and easy-to-follow instructions.
Q. Can teeth whitening damage your teeth?
Teeth whitening is safe when it's done correctly. It’s important to visit your dentist for a consultation before getting any whitening treatment so they can check if your teeth are suitable for whitening treatment. We don’t recommend ordering teeth whitening kits online and doing it yourself as you don’t know if it's safe to use, or if your teeth are suitable.
Q. Am i a good tooth whitening candidate?
Good teeth whitening candidates should be free of gum disease, tooth decay, or tooth infection. Good candidates for teeth whitening should also have stains that can be removed with topical bleaching. Intrinsic stains, particularly those caused by fluorosis and antibiotics can be incredibly resistant to tooth whitening. In fact, topical bleaching may enhance these stains as surrounding enamel is lightened. If you have tooth staining that is unlikely to respond to a topical bleach, we will discuss additional options.
